Privacy Policy

This policy explains how the Roamer iOS app (“Roamer”, “the app”), made by Velocity Apps (“we”, “us”), handles information. If you have questions, email [email protected].

1. Information that stays on your device

Roamer is built to work without collecting your travel data. The following is created and stored only on your iPhone, inside the app’s private storage:

• Location. If you turn on automatic tracking, Roamer uses your device’s location to work out which country you’re in each day. The country is looked up with a map built into the app, so no location is sent over the internet. Roamer saves the country and date, not a trail of coordinates.
• Photo metadata. If you import from Photos, Roamer reads only each photo’s date and location tag to find the countries you visited. It never opens, copies, uploads or stores the images themselves.
• Trips, counters and settings. Your home country, passports and residency details, trips, work/personal labels, counters, goals and preferences.
• Documents and travel proof. Photos, files, links and notes you attach yourself. Attachments are stored with iOS Data Protection, which encrypts them while your device is locked.

We cannot see or access this information. It may be included in your device backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) according to your own settings; those backups are handled by Apple and your device, not by us.

2. Information shared with service providers

Roamer uses a few third-party services to process subscriptions and to measure how people find and use the app. These providers receive the following, and nothing else from the app:

Purchase events contain only the product, price, currency and a transaction identifier. Like any online service, these providers see your device’s IP address when the app contacts them, and may use it to estimate an approximate region (such as your city or country) for analytics and ad measurement. None of them receive your GPS location, trips, countries you’ve logged, photos, documents or notes. Each provider handles data under its own privacy policy.

3. Tracking and your choices

When you first open Roamer, iOS asks whether the app may track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites. If you choose Ask App Not to Track, your advertising identifier (IDFA) is not accessed, and ad measurement falls back to Apple’s privacy-preserving methods such as SKAdNetwork. You can change this at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.

4. Permissions

Roamer asks for these permissions only when needed, and works without them (you can add trips by hand):

• Location (Always). Needed to log the country you’re in each day even while the app is closed. It uses low-power location services, not continuous GPS.
• Photos. Needed to import past trips from photo dates and location tags.
• Notifications. Used to warn you before you reach a limit.
• Camera and Face ID. Used to capture travel proof and to protect it, if you choose.

You can turn any of these off in the iOS Settings app, and turn off automatic tracking inside Roamer.

5. How long information is kept

Information on your device stays until you delete it in the app or delete the app. Information held by service providers is kept according to their retention settings and is used only for the purposes above.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. Because your travel data never reaches us, you control it directly: edit or delete it in the app, export it as a CSV, or delete the app to remove everything. For information held by our service providers, email us and we’ll help.

California residents: we don’t sell personal information for money. Using Meta and Singular to measure advertising may count as “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. You can opt out by choosing Ask App Not to Track (or turning tracking off in Settings), or by emailing us.

7. Children

Roamer is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU and UK), and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.

8. International transfers

Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, they use appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

9. Security

Your travel data stays in the app’s private storage on your device, protected by iOS. We never receive it, so it can’t be exposed through a Roamer server.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
